DUI and Criminal Defense
If you have been arrested for drunk driving you should retain the services of an attorney. Driving under the influence can result in serious penalties, jail time – imprisonment, fines, loss of your driver’s license, counseling, probation and the payment of court costs. If you would like to discuss your legal options following an arrest for driving under the influence please feel free to contact me at 860.294.6128 or via email at jim@jhalpin-law.com . I offer a free initial consultation, and provide legal services for many DUI clients on a fixed fee basis.
Penalties for drunk driving are serious, and a lawyer should be retained before your first court hearing. Many mandatory minimal penalties, even for first time offenders, are contained in the Connecticut General Statutes. Based on the police officer’s report and the prosecutor’s file, an experienced attorney can assess the minimum mandatory penalties for most people arrested for drunk driving. People arrested multiple times face harsh penalties and jail time, and many first time offenders do not receive imprisonment, but attend counseling programs. Whether you have failed a breathalyzer test, or feel the evidence is strongly against you, I will advocate on your behalf to either contest the DUI charges against you or work toward a resolution. There are many ways to challenge a DUI arrest. If a challenge to your arrest does not appear appropriate, I will work with the prosecutors to facilitate a fair agreement to plead out to the charges.
I also offer criminal defense services to individuals charge with nonviolent crimes. Nonviolent crimes are defined as property, drug, and public order offenses that do not involve a threat of harm or an actual attack upon a victim. A few examples of nonviolent crimes are possession of narcotics/drugs, larceny, theft or burglary, weapons possession, fraud, and arson. If you have been charged with a crime and would like to discuss your legal options, please feel free contact me at 860.294.6128 or via email at jim@jhalpin-law.com .
I accept cases from across Connecticut, including clients from Avon, Barkhamsted, Bristol, Burlington, Canton, Farmington, Hartford, Harwinton, Litchfield, New Britain, Plainville, Terryville, Torrington, Southington, Unionville, Waterbury, West Hartford, and Wolcott.
